SINCE she was old enough to hold a marker, Kari has been an artist. Since she could pick up a toy, Kari has loved to sort, inventory and organize. She spent countless hours growing up playing "store" or some type of business, rather than "house". She is a people-person, has a true eye for detail and a self-motivated entrepreneurial spirit. Kari was fortunate enough to have a Grandmother-like figure in her life growing up who was a Floral Designer, and on many occasions she would tag along and play assistant.. Lilies of The Valley you might say, was her first job; whether it was holding the bundle of greenery for Gail while she decorated a grand staircase for Christmas in a client's home, or just pushing the cart at the floral warehouse, she was there soaking it in. Kari knew she wanted to pursue a career in creating experiences; her attention to detail, passion for solving problems and re-imagining spaces lead her to The Art Institute of Portland, Oregon where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design and a Minor in Sustainability. Her education opened her eyes to much more than one creative path, learning programs such as AutoCAD, Adobe Suite and Google SketchUp, which are now much like a third arm to her. In addition to her found love for the digital and technical art forms, she developed a passion for studying and reaching people. In Interior Design, the term "End User" is used frequently, her passion for getting into the mind of the End User is something that has always been deeply embedded in her, but has only become a stronger skill and passion through out her career. This term translates into any and every industry, whether it is a client, user or target market, the ability to understand and communicate with others is vital, especially in the creative world. She believes everything we create should tell a story. Kari worked in the interior soft goods and window coverings industry, with hands-on experience in textiles and soft goods production, sometimes fabricating herself, as well as showroom sales and design consulting.
AFTER listening to a need for adventure, Kari landed in Southern California, she worked in the design and fabrication of retail interior decor, signage, fixtures and millwork for two years, then entered the multi-family industry an interior design firm in North County San Diego. With this firm, she further developed her design skills as part of an amazing team of creative individuals, specializing in the common and public areas of apartment communities across the country. After nearly five years in California, Kari followed her heart and lifelong dream of living in New England, excited to be near her family. She has spent the last three years under the wing of esteemed Boston Interior Designer, Liz Caan, as a Project Manager in high-end residential continuing to develop and finesse her design skills and client relations.
